The 5 W's Of Programming

5WS OF PROGRAMMING 

Use the 5Ws of Programming to start programming. Talk through these questions – Who, When, Where, What, Why (and a bonus How) – with your programming team before filling out your Program Planning Form.

 

Why are you running this program? 

  • What is the SMART goal of the program? 

  • Does this program align with the goals of your chapter? 

  • What do you want this program to inspire? 

    • A connection? An action? A new way of thinking? A desire for continued BBYO experiences? 

  • Does this program further the ideals and values of AZA, BBG and BBYO?

Who are you inviting? 

  • Is this a chapter members-only program? 

  • Will you be inviting prospective members? 

  • Will you be inviting another chapter? 

    •  If so, will that chapter be an AZA chapter or BBG chapter? 

  • Are you inviting any speakers or guests?

When is the program taking place? 

  • When is your target audience available? 

  • What day and time will best suit the goals of the program? 

    • How does the day of the week affect your timing? o Is the program going to be on a weeknight or weekend?

    • Should you have a daytime program or an evening program?

    • What time will this program be at? 

  • Will the program be on Shabbat, or Saturday night (do you need services or Havdallah)?

Where will the program be held? 

  • What venue will best suit the goals of the program? 

    • How accessible is your location for your target audience(s)? 

  • Are you renting space? 

    • Have you reserved your space/will they charge you? 

  • Are you going to be in a public place? Do you need a permit? 

​

What are the details of the program? 

  • What is the content of the program? (What will you actually be doing?) 

  • Will you have guest speakers or facilitators? 

    • If so, are they going to charge you? 

  • What supplies will you need? 

  • Are you serving food? (Remember, keep it kosher/kosher style.) 

  • Do you need transportation to and from the event? Will it cost money? 

  • What room setup will best engage participants? Will you need AV? 

  • How will the environment of the space enhance your program?

How much are you going to charge? 

  • How much are you spending on the program? 

    • Supplies? Swag? Food? Speakers? Rental Costs? Transportation? 

  • How much will you charge for the program? 

  • Will you offer scholarship funds? 

​
